Sports Engagement Service

Community Engagement

Our community engagement programme aims to engage young people with needs led activities in the heart of Lambeth communities.

Sports Engagement

Our sports engagement programme utilises sport as a means of engaging young people living on inner city estates. Our football programme offers young people mentoring alongside football training and coaching. Each week a team of football coaches host a number of football training sessions in Lambeth, and organise matches and tournaments for the young people to take part in. We offer football sessions for both boys and girls.

The young people are encouraged as part of the programme to become qualified FA Level 1 Coaches and then to volunteer to coach other young people on their estates.

We also offer basketball, futsal and tennis sessions, as well as weeklong sailing residentials and multi-sport activities. These activities encourage trust and teamwork, whilst also broadening the horizons of the young people and breaking down relational barriers.  For many of our young people, these residential trips are the only chance they have to leave their estates.

As part of our Sports Engagement Programme, we also offer football sessions with a number of schools in Lambeth. We currently deliver our sessions at Lambeth College, La Retraite and Platanos College. Any schools that would be interested in partnering with us to offer sports engagement sessions please get in touch!

Holiday Programmes

Our Holiday Programme involves sessions run during all three half-term breaks and the six-week summer holiday. During these holiday sessions, we offer additional sports engagement sessions, residential trips (including our sailing programme), excursions, as well as the chance to try out alternative sports including white-water rafting, sailing, and kayaking.

The purpose of the BIGKID Holiday Programme is to give the young people we work with the chance to try new things, experience something outside of their comfort zone, make new friendships and engage in more positive activities when not in school.
